ABOUT THE STORY

I originally heard the story of the elephants of the Pilanesberg from my brother, who heard it from a motivational speaker at the middle school he taught at.  I immediately thought of so many small children who could benefit from hearing the story.  I researched all the versions of the story and took some time to make the story readable for young audiences.

I think this story is one so many people need to hear.  Many of us spend a lot of energy in our life thinking about what others shouldn't do.  Instead, if we choose to LIVE LARGE, we can spend that energy showing others how to live.  Additionally, we think that often the way things are being done is the only way they can be done.  Instead, we can choose to LIVE LARGE and interrupt what is going wrong to do what is right.

Before this, I was not a writer and had never produced a book.  I started doing research on artists I wanted to use for the illustrations and then realized that I already knew some of my most favorite artists!  I love the artwork given to me on a daily basis from children and decided to run an art contest across the city to get some local talent in on the same.  I am so happy with the results.  We will try to post on artist bio's soon!

I am always looking for feedback and new ideas for stories that need to be shared with kids - if you want to drop me a note with thoughts, I would love to hear from you!  heather@childhooddoneright.com

Also, I am the owner of Young Peoples Learning Center, I have run training classes for parents and teachers, I am the head of a project to bring paraprofessionals to community early childhood classrooms and I am always looking for ways to improve the lives of children and families in Larimer County and beyond.  If you want to learn more about anything else I do, check out www.childhooddoneright.com - oh, and I am the one who drives the tiger striped van around Fort Collins :)
